INSTALL

Timeline of events and task assignments

Schedule (11/24-12/3)
Monday 11/24, Time TBD -- group meeting in Marsh gallery to mask off/mark the layout of the silhouettes, and to give all remaining input on the location of the mounts for the pipes, floating shelves, foam symbols, etc.  As soon as the silhouette locations have been marked, tell Colin or Mike ASAP so Colin can adjust the lighting before we install bajillion strings.

Tuesday 11/25, 3 pm? -- Cutting string, threading pipes, installing pipes, installing foam symbols, installing hooks, tangling and de-tangling cords as desired/preparing the string for pinning later in the week.  I recommend getting the framework up, and leaving finishing for a few days later (filling holes, painting foam symbols, etc).  That can be done the weekend before the opening--first priority is to get the stuff of the wall, and then next priority is to see how much more string and cord is needed to make the space the way we want it.

Wednesday 11/26 - Friday 11/28 --TBD.  These are the days with the most people missing.  Those who are in town can decide if they will schedule meetings on these days depending on the status of the install.

Saturday 11/29 - Sunday 11/30 -- filling holes, painting foam, pinning and hooking and looping string everywhere, arranging take aways, paper shapes for writing, stickers, tacks in their respective spots, evaluating string and cord content, sourcing more if necessary, adding small printed instructions for participating if it seems appropriate, punching holes in text bubble paper and tying string onto it maybe?, construct take-aways...ETC.

Monday 12/1 -- mounting the prints on foam, continue to work on presentation in gallery, construct take-aways if we didn't get to them over the weekend.

Tuesday 12/2 -- hanging the mounted prints in their reserved spots on the wall (can do this on Monday depending on how quickly the prints are mounted)

Wednesday 12/3 -- whatever else can be done before 6.

Tasks, loosely prioritized:
COURTNEY & MARYAM -- finalizing silhouettes and sending to printer

COURTNEY -- finalize Statement, print and dry mount for show display, Print 2: 22x28 show posters and a few 11x17 posters on personal photo paper

MIRANDA -- printing cards, posters, and sending us a PDF of the flyer for us to print and distribute around town.

KIM -- building shelves for print trade, helping with mounting wall items

GROUP -- masking, marking locations of all wall mounted elements

GROUP -- cutting cord, threading and knotting in pipes, evaluating string quantity

STEPHANIE & SUZY -- cutting foam into symbols and painting, and cutting appropriate
size rectangles for prints and painting edges, printing stickers

GROUP --  mounting pipes, floating shelves, foam symbols--anything that's ready to go on the wall

MONA -- if you are able to get your hands on some of that cable you found at Surplus, that would be great to have just to see how it looks with the rest of the stuff

GROUP -- typing up, printing out, and cutting apart words to provide for pinning--made up internet words, social media terms, e-mail phrases, anything that you can think of to add to the supply of things for people to look through and choose from for pinning.

GROUP -- constructing take-aways

PRIYA -- cutting out lots o' text bubbles and any other appropriate shapes I think of on colorful unlined paper.  sourcing more plastic cord, yarn, etc.  I'll leave it upstairs--group can decide what they want to use and not use, I'm good with any of it.

BRANDON -- silkscreening t-shirts, laying out contact paper for refresh symbol?

CHRIS & TENIA & COURTNEY -- mounting prints onto foam when they are ready.

PRIYA & ... -- hanging prints.  I can do this, I'll just need a hand from one or two additional people.  I also want to make sure I've got the process right for drilling the holes and placing the hardware, so I'll go over it with Stephanie before I dive in.  Chris, if it's possible to mount a small piece of photo paper onto some of the foam so I can test out drilling through the prints before going for it on our nice ones that would be awesome to have.

GROUP -- publicizing.  hang up flyers, post on fb, invite friends and family, etc.

LOOSE ENDS --we didn't discuss who would be purchasing contact paper, laying out and executing the refresh symbol on the floor.  I put down Brandon tentatively because he did a nice job with the tape upstairs.  Kathryn mentioned a specific way to clean the floor so that we get good adhesion--we should probably get advice from her unless someone has done this before.  Vinyl can also be purchased from fabric stores, or of course, vinyl shops--but we would need to figure out how to adhere it.

Here's a funny cat video (we earned it).

11/11 and 11/13

There's been more working than note taking lately, but here is an update of sorts.
First some images:

Tasks that are being accomplished this weekend(ish):
Courtney--finalizing exhibition statement, photoshopping our photographs into silhouettes
Miranda--designing "logo" and exhibition title and statement vinyl
Miranda and Courtney--finalizing take-away designs
Brandon--designing t-shirt print based on Miranda's design
Kim + helpers--building shelves to trade for 11 3' x 4' prints of our silhouettes, hot gluing PVC and spray painting
Suzy, Stephanie, Priya--buying more supplies
Everyone--bringing white t-shirt on Tuesday

Vinyl design needs to be given to Colin by Wednesday.

We decided on t-pins for attaching cords and paper to the foam.  Thank you to Tenia for cutting out all of the paper shapes.  We have been going back and forth between having just the silhouette prints on foam around the gallery, or including other foam shapes.  In the "include other shapes" camp, some people are for having cloud like organic shapes, and some people prefer internet connectivity symbols, and some prefer both.  Topography has been taken out of the equation.  We are using our silhouettes as a reference to the generic facebook profile silhouette.  We are still deciding what level of customization we will do with these.  Here is an example that Maryam sent to which we all responded positively:

It has definitely been determined that the strings will be pinned into the prints which are mounted on foam.  At this time, all foam will be on the wall--there are no plans for any foam on the floor.Tuesday 11/18--meet in Herron Main upstairs at 3 to finalize the example we're setting up in the studio.
